The “Smoky Mountain Urgent Care Power Bear” Tunnel

On September 2,  Smoky Mountain Urgent Care made a large donation to Sevier County High School guaranteed to increase school spirit. The new tradition is sure to be a source of enthusiasm for all the students not just the football players. The “Smoky Mountain Urgent Care Power Bear” is being gifted to the entire school. Coach Steve Brewer wanted to ensure it could be used for more events than just football games.

Guaranteed to boost school spirit!

“It’s important for us to support our community by supporting local schools,” said Dr. Michael Rothwell, President and CEO of Smoky Mountain Urgent Care. “When this idea came up, I wanted to go to the best in the business so we would have a great one!”

The “Smoky Mountain Urgent Care Power Bear” was designed and created by Landmark Creations in Burnsville, Minnesota, the same manufacturer of the NFL’s Chicago Bears’ spirit tunnel. The spirit tunnel is more than 20 feet long, 17 feet wide and at its highest point nearly as tall as a two-story building at 17 feet. Dr. Rothwell worked closely with Coach Brewer to make sure the design incorporated many of the school’s traditions, colors and of course the Smoky Bear mascot.

“I cannot wait for the team and the whole school to see it,” explained Coach Brewer, who has tried to keep this secret since the beginning of the school year. “I bet they’re going to think it’s incredible, I know I do.”

While Smoky Mountain Urgent Care has supported all of the local community high schools, this is by far the largest gift. “We knew we would only be able to financially make this gift to one school at a time,” explained Dr. Rothwell, “so because our physician partners contain a Sevier County High School alumna, we decided they would be the first.”

The start of a new tradition!

Dr. Robin A Huskey, the Occupational Health Director for Smoky Mountain Urgent Care did graduated from Sevier County High School. “I think it is great we are able to help out all the schools, but of course this gift is extra special to me,” explained Dr. Huskey.

Smoky Mountain Urgent Care has given out tips and hints at the big gift since the first week of school by radio, Facebook and Twitter. Dr. Rothwell explained, “It has been a difficult secret to keep and we can’t wait to see the reaction!”
